Vietnam’s higher education system has grown quickly. Universities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and other cities enroll large numbers of students. Programs cover engineering, business, medicine, and technology.
Competition for places at top public universities is strong. Entrance scores decide admission, and popular programs fill fast. Private universities offer an alternative for students who miss the cutoff, at higher tuition.
Many Vietnamese students study abroad, in countries such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the United States. Study abroad requires planning for visas, language tests, and costs. Students should start researching at least a year before they plan to leave, and review international student admission requirements.
Online degrees are a lower-cost way to earn a foreign credential from home.
English skills matter for both study abroad and international careers. Students who build English early have more options later.
